I had researched more of this and my laptop should be compatible to 16 gb, not sure if I got the wrong "cheap" ram that doesn't work with my computer. During my attempts with OWC they had me do a number of key stroke combinations. Same story, multiple returns and attempts with no luck. ![]() He recommends PC3-8500 memory 8GB chips for this. Below is the proof - according to the seller of this laptop, the computer recognizes all 16GB of memory and does NOT kernel panic. I ordered 16Gb of memory from Crucial and, after three attempts and three returns I tried OWC. This is to confirm that the MacBook Pro 17 inch from 2010 can support 16GB of memory fully under High Sierra. Obviously both new sticks work and both slots work. I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro 13'with the original 4gb of RAM. I did this method to the other 8 GB and with the same results. I then took one 8 GB ram and then my 2 GB ram (that came with my computer for a total of 10) and the ram showed up as 10 GBs. The little buffering circle would freeze and I would have to force a shut off (kernal panick?). I bought Corsair ram ( ) and tried installing it last night w hen I installed them I had the screen on boot up show the gray screen and the gray apple. So I have recently bought a 16 GB ram upgrade for my Macbook Pro Mid 2010.
